Whatever peoples opinions on the jumps, I think we all have a common goal. It is a sport we all love and hopefully want to protect. Even in the relatively small time I've been jumping base has grown. We have to embrace the change!
Good jump from Simon. Well done.
As for dans jump. My initial reaction was that it was a simple sell out. On reflection, it did no harm and forgotten about a day or so later. As long as in my opinion, jumpers don't just sell out jumpable objects I don't care.
There is a very small minority of jumpers jumping different objects in the uk so I believe it really only effects a few people, but let's not be naive and think we are the only ones jumping them. There are people out jumping new and different objects all over the country. They are just keeping it quiet.
Agree entirely and again my basejumping happens with the slider on in the mountains so none of it affects me directly.
I have no doubt the object was already toast and no problem with the selling of the footage.
I say the article was negative for base jumping due to the associations with terrorism, I witnessed first hand the hysteria this creates. When I got busted in the middle of the night on a well know power tower, within literally minutes of getting on the object there was 2 police cars, about 10 coppers and a police helicopter shining a spot light on me.
I asked the copper why such a massive police response for a couple of basejumpers on a well know base spot in the dead of night. His reply' with terrorism we cannot take any chances these days'.
I think any association with base and terrorism is a bad for everyone who jumps, its not really possible to quantify the exact effect but its definitely not going to make things easier.
I think you made a good decision in not dealing with the Sun, it might have cost you a few quid but I think that was a good call.
